The Future of Flexible Packaging

Image
Flexible packaging accounts for 19 percent of the overall packaging market and is expected to grow at a rate of 3.9 percent CAGR by 2023, according to the 2019 Flexible Packaging Marketing Assessment by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies. Convenient packaging, excellent barrier properties, sustainable materials and growing customer base for fast-moving consumer products and consumer durables in emerging countries are driving this expansion.   Food is the largest end-use industry for flexible packaging, accounting for nearly half of all flexible packaging used. The food industry was an early adopter of flexible packaging and has seen continued, strong growth due to a rise in convenient packaging for ready-to-eat foods, snacks, frozen meals and cake mixes. Two segments—processed fruits and vegetables and baby food—are expected to outperform the overall food market for flexible packaging, achieving over two percent growth through 2023. Global demand for co

Which is better, Biodegradable Pouch or Recyclable Pouch?

Image
In creating an environmentally sustainable packaging product, you’ll encounter different kinds of eco-friendly packaging. Many packaging products boast environmentally-friendly benefits such as “biodegradable” and “recyclable” materials. But what exactly do these terms mean, and what is the difference between them? Here’s an introduction to biodegradable and recyclable materials.   What does Biodegradable and Recyclable mean?   Biodegradable refers to the ability of materials to break down and return to nature. The right temperature, humidity and heat will trigger the biodegradation process. Materials that are biodegradable include corrugated cardboard and even some plastics. Biodegradable material is ideal for biodegradable pouch and biodegradable containers in packaging industry. Once the biodegradable packaging bags are produced, these conditions start to act very slowly, but only when they reach appropriate composting conditions, does the full degradation cycle begin to

Keep Your Child Safe With Child Resistant Packaging

Image
Protecting children from accidental poisonings is everyone’s responsibility – from parents and caretakers to brands and packaging engineers.   Currently, minimum requirements are expected of manufacturers of cannabis-based products including the name of the product and declaration of active herbal ingredient; content and ratio of THC and CBD; route of administration; instructions for use, “keep out of reach and sight of children” warnings and the expiry date.   When it comes to non-licensed lifestyle CBD products like oils and gummies, any claims around medical benefits for lifestyle CBD products are a no-go. CBD is only considered medically beneficial when given in clinical doses and any measurable amount of THC in a product requires a license.   However, as the popularity of these products spikes, it’s likely these minimum requirements will be expanded to protect public safety and become enforced by law.   Child Resistant Packaging is considered as one of the most

Impact of COVID-19 on the Cannabis Industry – Positive or Negative?

Image
Impact of COVID-19 on the Cannabis Industry – Positive or Negative?   The COVID-19 pandemic may be the largest ever disruptor of Americans’ life and business. As we all know, many workplaces have shifted online or shut down altogether. However, the cannabis industry occupies a unique space and while it may be outlawed at the federal level, it is considered essential in many states.   Despite all of the disruption out there, the cannabis industry has many bright spots and is apparently still growing at an impressive rate. For those who may be seeking employment or a career change, the cannabis industry may be a viable option even as the novel coronavirus continues to run its course. Report also shows the industry’s 2020 growth is outpacing that of 2019.   Although there is reason for optimism, the industry is behaving a bit differently (understandably so) than it did pre-COVID. Retailers are placing larger orders less frequently, perhaps focusing their attention more on th

Why Child Resistant Packaging?

Image
During the years, child resistant packaging has been used to package drugs, cosmetics, and household chemicals, the number of children who have died from ingesting toxic household substances has declined significantly.  The aim of child proof packaging is to keep little fingers out of products which could harm them, while ensuring that adults can still open and close packaging easily. The World Health Organization and UNICEF state that child resistant packaging is one of the best-documented successes in preventing accidental poisoning of children. A child resistant package usually requires a special ‘trick’ to open it – something too complicated for most young children to work out. For example, users might have to push or squeeze a lid at the same time as turning it. It’s also possible to make non-reclosable packs, such as blister packs, child resistant by using very strong material or covers that have to be peeled off. Most of popular child resistant packaging is child resistant

Plastic packaging ban 'could harm environment'

Image
Consumer pressure to end plastic packaging in shops could actually be harming the environment, a report says.   Firms are swapping to other packaging materials which are potentially even worse for the environment, an independent think tank warns. Glass bottles, for instance, are much heavier than plastic so are far more polluting to transport. Paper bags tend to have higher carbon emissions than plastic bags – and are more difficult to re-use. The change in packaging materials has been prompted by concern from shoppers about the impact of plastic waste in the oceans.   Compostable   The group has been working with recycling organizations to survey shops’ anonymous responses to public anxiety about plastic polluting the oceans. Global warming is getting serious and it is everybody’s duty to better protect the environment.   Do you have an idea about the compostable packaging?   Feel free to share or discuss with us by emailing inquiry@bestpackagesolutions.net

Why Compostable Pouch?

Image
The compostable pouch has addressed the challenges of plastic pollution from the design phase. It offers a packaging alternative that mimics perfectly the positive properties of a conventional plastic packaging such as moisture and oxygen barrier, shelf-life, lightweight design, and flexibility, but with a built-in circular solution for its end-of-use.   Flexible packaging is a complex system and requires different types of packaging for different types of usage, and thus requiring different types of solutions. Flexible films and multilayered packaging are playing an essential role in protecting the freshness and nutritional value of our food because it is low weight and convenient for transport and use. The Challenge with Traditional Flexible Plastic Pouches The challenge with traditional flexible plastic pouches is that it is nearly impossible to technically recycle thin films and multilayered plastic packaging and it definitely isn’t economically viable to do so.
